business as usual

Had an awful first day back at work.

a) an (important) client is seriously pissed off because we had a supply chain problem during my holidays... ONE product was not available for two weeks and you'd think the world came to an end!
plus (the more relevant situation) our marketing assistant is 1 week late with some research for him = recipe for disaster!

Add that to the fact that they do not complain 1. to the person responsible and 2. when the problem occurs, but keep shtumm for a couple of weeks before exploding. Really does not help.

b) we had a sales conference and I was the designated translator = me very tired and in no mood to smooth ruffled feathers

c) another client apparently has a sexist attitude towards women, i.e. me (is my customer), apparently women are supposed to stay at home and mind children instead of swanning around the workforce. OMG. My first real brush with sexism. (all other times I did not need bother with the prick.)
Quite interesting actually, have to think up a strategy to deal with the situation. At least I know that he likes me. :-)

I must admit, that I really noticed that I am not yet back at 100%. Normally stuff like the above does not faze me at all. Have to deal with it on a daily basis.
But I noticed my head hurting this afternoon and me getting quite tired towards the end of the day.

Even made me doubt my ability to withstand pressure for a minute, i.e. can I do my job?! Thankfully I know from past experience that I am quite resistant to stress, so at least I have that to fall back on. ( I do like my job... even if I have the impression that I am doing 3 jobs at once... kam, area sales manager for the romandie, new: business trainer)
