Blink of an eye

A quick recap of the past weeks, in non-chronological order:

Tamara and Dani have now definitely left New York for Baden. They went travelling through South America last month and came back on August 1st, right on time to crash our Swiss National Day party at Cafe Select (the best Swiss restaurant in NYC).

After a short night we reunited for brunch at The Smith the next day, before seeing them off to the airport.

It's definitely strange having them gone, especially as we used to spend so much time together. This is the first time that one of our closest friends here have left NYC. It does take some getting used to.

Travels
We enjoyed two great weekend trips with the Swiss Desk last month: Boston and Washington.

I must admit that I really fell in love with Boston. It's so green, the food is fresh and really good (especially the Italian food!), people's lifestyle seems to be focussed on the waterfront (sailing!), it's very relaxing.

Washington is nice, but with its sprawling streets and the mall it feels like the whole city is one big museum.

Boston
Poor Anja lost her voice due to a bad cold, but that did not stop her exploring the city with me, while the boys were at a business meeting:

View from The Prudential tower

A small snack at The Cheesecake factory

Cannollies from the famous Mike's Pastry

Taking a Duck tour (vehicule goes in water as well)

Enjoying ice-cream at Harvard

Washington
In Washington we spent a lazy weekend wandering up the Mall, starting at The Capitol and ending at the Lincoln Memorial.

In the evenings we hung out in Georgetown and at the waterfront, just people watching.

Back in NYC
One of our friends, Jennifer, celebrated her birthday at the Manhattan Sailing Club's clubhouse, which is basically a bar on a raft on the water. Beautiful views of downtown!

On my way to the docks, I finally stopped by the 9/11 memorial. I tend to avoid going there, the air still feels very heavy with tragedy.

The memorial is very nicely done. Water cascading down into nowhere.

And next to it the Freedom tower
