Think I made an absolute fool of myself out on town recently.
I was sooooooo drunk (in a good way, slightly verging out of control) that I even gobbled up the remains of Manuel's raclette at 3am. Turned out to be a good thing, as the cheese soaked up (almost) all alcohol and left me feeling a little groggy, but otherwise fine the next day.
Really went a little wild (= overdid it completely with the booze), won't do that again in a hurry :-)
Had the first part of my development review on Thursday. This time it was "for real" (last year I had only been working there for 3 months, just enough for a first impression).
Boss was quite nice, but boy was I quaking in my shoes... at some point in the interview I was going to have to tell her that I wanted her job someday. Was terrified she would burst out laughing / not take me seriously.
She asked how I was doing & I told her not bad, could be better. My self-confidence had suffered a bit thanks to my recent illness, but am getting back on track and it is growing every day.
Her feedback was that she is pleased with me & my performance and told me not to worry about the last couple of months.
Then she asked me about my plans for the next 5 to 10 years. Did I want to stay in my current position, be the next General Manager, or was I aiming for he board of directors?
Thankfully she mentioned GM, so I was able to tell her that yes, one day I would like to be a GM (her job), but I am unsure as to how I can get there.
I need a job that combines many different areas, different challenges. Otherwise I fear I will get bored very quickly. I enjoy coming up with new concepts, generating new ideas, trying to reach people & get them to buy in & organising mini-events. (no, please don't think event management, not my thing either).
She was very positive and said a necessary step towards becoming a GM is international exposure and if I were open to working in other countries. Hell yeah! ;-)
Manuel & I have already discussed this matter and we would like to go abroad for a bit. Anywhere goes where women are accepted as equal partners in the workforce (goodbye Japan, goodbye most Muslim countries). No way am I going to be a housewife... cooking & cleaning are far more stressful than work!
She will see what she can do (fingers crossed!).
I would have to spend at least one more year in my current position and there would need to be a suitable vacancy in a country, but she spoke as if it were a certain thing. Am trying not to get my hopes up toooooo much!
