out with the old... in with the new

The new year is approaching and I am really looking forward to 2013.

Am happy. Approximately one to two weeks ago, I woke up one morning and did not feel split down the middle anymore. I'd been feeling out of sync again and been subject to mood swings (melancholy for NO reason, suddenly wildly happy, etc.) until that morning. Woke up and "the feeling" was gone. Felt free and at peace.
Now I can finally fully focus on this perfect adventure I am on. My life in NYC!

How do I know I am back on track? Easy... my head is free and I have rediscovered my love of SHOPPING!

Had a great surprise a couple of days ago: my friend called from Brazil
I 'd arranged a Skype date early in the morning (8am) with Gaby and had just begged for 5 minutes more to make myself semi-respectable. Of course, just when I had my mouth full of toothpaste and was trying to stick a leg through my shorts, I get another call.

"Tsss, some people have NO patience," I thought until I saw the caller ID. Did not stop to think and just pressed Video Chat! Needless to say, Lämmli (my friend) nearly died laughing when he saw me. Hair askew, grinning like an idiot with a mouth full of toothpaste, and not able to stand up properly, as not fully clothed!

Luckily we have a loooong history (Sekundarschule & Wirtschaftsgymnasium), so no worries there. Unfortunately we'd lost touch after high school until the reunion last year. Loved that reunion, everything / -one was so familiar, it was just like we all had never been apart. Amazing how certain patterns and group dynamics do not change.

Anyhow, I was SO happy to see him! He had recently relocated to Brazil and I never dreamt he'd get in touch. They bought a FARM out in the sticks and want to be fully self-sufficient. Really. They have ANIMALS. He only has Internet access when they drive down to his wife's sister's place. She lives in a small village (!) and they stock up on supplies there once a month.

Ok, I admit, it's probably not that weird if you don't know him. For those of you who don't: Imagine someone who always dreamt of having an easy life in an office (an accountant) suddenly turns farmer. Yes. go there. See what I mean? Now re-read that last paragraph again. Gotcha!

He gave me a "tour" of the house and street (= walked around with the laptop). Looked a lot like Cambodia, to be honest! Really nice to see that he was so happy.
That phone call made my day.

We are going all out for our New Year's celebration tomorrow. Nice dinner with a couple of friends somewhere near our flat, then apéro chez nous, so us girls can repair some of the damage the wind has done, and then... PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!

We're going to a big bash at Cipriani on 42nd Street and really excited about it. If we have to break with tradition (fondue chinoise & big party at our place in Basel) we will do so in style!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
