We've just been cruising down the coast, enjoying the beautiful scenery and sunset after sunset.
After celebrating our wedding anniversary in Moro Bay, we drove 3.5 hours inland to Sequoia National Park. The Sequoia trees are huge! Not the tallest in height but in width / volume. They can reach 6m in diameter, keeping that width at a height of 100m.
California is suffering from a (very) long period of drought - it's shocking to see the current water level in lakes.
Driving through the barren countryside (to and fro from Sequoia NP) was rather boring, so we were glad to get back to the coast.
We stopped in Solvang, a village very proud of its Dutch heritage, on our way to Santa Barbara. They happened to be holding their annual Heritage festival, so we were lucky to sample some delicious (and authentic!) Dutch pastries.
We are now in Ventura, just off Santa Barbara. Love this area, the weather is perfect, we have a swimming pool (!) at the hotel and it's just so nice and relaxing after all that driving to stay in one spot for a bit.
Also glad to exchange the awful road trip snacks for something a bit healthier too!
